Accessibility Statement
Insurance claims are stressful enough. The website should not add to that. We want this site to work for everyone, including people who use screen readers, keyboard navigation, voice control, magnifiers, or other assistive technology.
Our commitment
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA, published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). These guidelines are the widely accepted standard for accessible web content and cover four principles: perceivable, operable, understandable, and robust.
What we have built in
- Semantic HTML. Headings, lists, links, buttons, and landmarks use the right element so assistive technology can navigate the page.
- Keyboard navigation. All interactive elements (links, buttons, form fields, the Sign in dropdown, the FAQ accordion) are reachable and operable with a keyboard.
- Skip-to-content link. A "Skip to content" link appears at the top of every page so keyboard and screen-reader users can bypass the navigation.
- Color contrast. Body text, headings, links, and CTAs target the WCAG AA contrast minimum of 4.5:1 (3:1 for large text and UI components).
- Form labels. Every input has an associated label so screen readers announce what the field is for.
- Alt text on images. Meaningful images include descriptive alt text. Decorative images use empty alt attributes so they are not announced.
- ARIA where it helps. Live regions, expanded/collapsed states, and menu roles are used to keep custom widgets accessible.
- Responsive design. The site is designed to work at all viewport widths from small phones to large monitors, and supports up to 200% browser zoom without loss of content or function.
- Phone numbers tap-to-call. Every phone number on the site uses a
tel:link.
Known limitations
We are honest about where we are not perfect yet:
- The Fire Risk Score lookup tool returns dynamic results based on third-party CAL FIRE data. The result presentation is screen-reader friendly, but the underlying CAL FIRE data is not under our control and may not always include alternative text for any embedded imagery.
- This statement reflects a self-evaluation. We have not yet completed a formal third-party accessibility audit. We plan to commission one as we expand the site.
- External links open content we do not control. The accessibility of external sites (such as the California Department of Insurance license portal) is the responsibility of those operators.
How we test
We use a combination of automated and manual testing:
- Automated checks using browser-based accessibility tools.
- Keyboard-only navigation passes on every new page or section.
- Manual review of color contrast on every brand-color change.
- Periodic checks with a screen reader on macOS or Windows.
Browser and assistive-technology compatibility
The site is built to work with the current versions of:
- Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari on desktop and mobile.
- VoiceOver on macOS and iOS.
- NVDA and JAWS on Windows.
- TalkBack on Android.
If you find a barrier with a specific browser or assistive technology, please let us know.
Tell us if something does not work
If you encounter an accessibility barrier on this site, please contact us. Tell us where you ran into the issue and, if you can, what browser and assistive technology you were using. We will respond within five business days and work to fix the issue.

If you cannot reach the content you need
If a page or tool on this site is not working for you, we will get you the information another way. Call or email us and we will read content over the phone, send it by email, or mail printed materials at no cost. The goal is to make sure you can review your options whether or not the website works for your setup.
This accessibility statement is provided in plain English. It is a starting point and will be updated as our testing and improvements continue.
